Bio

I obtained my B.Sc. and M.Eng. from Shizuoka University
in Japan, and my PhD from the University of Toronto in 1982. I am a retired
Frank Dottori Professor of Pulp and Paper Engineering and Director of the
Pulp & Paper Centre in the Department of Chemical Engineering and
Applied Chemistry. I helped establish and direct consecutively 12 large
industrial research consortia, focusing on issues related to energy and
chemical recovery in kraft pulp mills. I have authored or co-authored
over 300 refereed papers and has 8 patents. I have chaired the
TAPPI Kraft Recovery Course since 2006. I was named a TAPPI fellow in
2000, PAPTAC fellow in 2015, and Canadian Academy of Engineering
Fellow in 2016.
