Student Summit 

Featuring Bryanna Lawry, North Carolina State University and Olivia Price, Western Michigan University. 

Bryanna is currently a junior at NC State University, double majoring in Chemical Engineering and Paper Science Engineering, and is expected to graduate in May 2024!  She is currently the secretary of NC States student TAPPI chapter. This past summer, she interned as a process engineer in the pulp processes department of the Georgia Pacific Muskogee, OK mill and is returning to GP this summer, but as a part of the paper CSC group in their corporate office in Atlanta. For the past year and a half, and counting, she has worked as an undergraduate researcher on multiple projects- that spanned concepts from new sustainable packaging options, carbon reduction and climate technology.

Olivia is a 4th year - Senior at Western Michigan University. She is a Paper and Chemical Engineering Double Major. In 2021 she had an Internship with Graphic Packaging. This past summer in 2022, she interned with Capstone Technology where she accepted a full time offer with Capstone upon graduation. Olivia is a Board Member of Western Michigan's TAPPI Student Chapter.

'Incorporation of post-consumer pizza boxes in the recovered fiber stream'

Featuring Ashok Ghosh, WestRock Company. Ashok Ghosh has 25 year work experience in paper industry in pulp, paper quality, production and sustainability. Ashok has a PhD from paper science department, North Carolina State University where he researched non-chlorine bleaching chemistry. Presently he is managing research on Recycling and Sustainability.

Process Chemicals for Papermaking

Featuring Martin Hubbe, North Carolina State University and Scott Rosencrance, Kemira.

Marty, as Professor and Buckman Distinguished Scientist at North Carolina State University (1998 to present), Marty teaches and conducts research related to the colloidal chemistry of cellulosic materials, with a particular focus on papermaking wet-end chemistry. Hubbe has conducted research related to paper strength, electrokinetic tests, flocculation, and dewatering.  He has also chaired TAPPI's "Introduction to Wet-End Chemistry" short course and conducted university courses for on-campus students and distance-education.

In addition to his work with Kemira, Scott has served as an adjunct assistant professor for the University of Minnesota's Department of Bioscience Engineering. Additionally, he has been a member of the Chemistry Advisory Board for Fairmont State University, as well as Kennesaw State University's Biochemistry and Chemistry Advisory Board. He is the author of more than about 80 patents and publications in a variety of international journals about physical chemistry, colloids, and surfaces, in large part related to pulp and paper.

Paper Machine Operations 

Featuring instructor Tom Rodencal, Tom Rodencal & Associates. Tom is a product expert on high ash chemistry with implementations in North America, Mexico, and Brazil. Since 2016, he has been president of Tom Rodencal & Associates, a consulting company to the paper and allied industries. In this role, he has provided operator training, troubleshooting, paper machine auditing, and due diligence to various companies. Tom is a TAPPI Fellow, past chairman of the TAPPI Paper & Board Division, and past TAPPI Board director.

Lime Kilns and Recausticizing: The Forgotten Part of a Kraft Mill

Featuring Peter Hart, Director of Fiber Science and Innovation at WestRock. Peter specializes in pulping, bleaching, evaporators, chemical recovery, recausticization, refining, and wet end chemistry. Also featuring Glenn Hanson III who is currently in Pyro Technical Sales Support for Metso Outotec in the North & Central Americas Region. Both are editors of Lime Kilns and Recausticizing: The Forgotten Part of a Kraft Mill Publication.
