Chatter, Surface defects
Definition:
Gouges are places where the doctor blade has dug deeply into the metal of the Yankee. They are most often caused by poor maintenance or procedure with the creping equipment. Often happen when trying address a wrapped Yankee. Gouges usually have crescent shape and are rather random not repeating in in a wash board style pattern like chatter.
