: Gouges (actually a similar but different defect)
Definition:
A defect on the surface of the Yankee dryer coating and sometimes into the actual metal of the Yankee. Chatter has many causes but is directly the result of a doctor blade against the Yankee surface vibrating harmonically and acting on the surface in a skip-slip pattern moving in and out of the coating, and in very serious cases into the metal of the Yankee.
